Working with the Portuguese community in and around Boston, Lincolnshire, Ana Antonio Gill used the Portuguese word ‘saudade’ and objects as prompts for reminiscence work in a series of workshops. ‘Saudade’ has connotations with nostalgia.
Based on the outcomes of the workshops, the artist and participants created digital photographs, artwork, and ‘precious memory books’ to represent their interpretation of the word ‘saudade’.
The work was commissioned by The New Art Exchange, Nottingham and the Monitoring Group, and exhibited at The Galleries of Justice, Nottingham in October 2007.
